 Abstract:  Steve/Akiva Garber was active in the Yale University chapter of the Student Struggle for Soviet Jewry (SSSJ) during the 1970s. After leaving Yale, he became active in the Israel Public Council for Soviet Jewry, which helped many Soviet Jews escape and resettle in Israel. The collection consists of reports, newspaper clippings, publications, correspondence, notes and sound recordings relating to the struggle for Soviet Jewry in the United States and Israel, and especially relating to the Yale chapter of the SSSJ.

The collection consists of correspondence, notes, articles, leaflets, booklets and bulletins belonging to the Laufers.

 Abstract:  Lillian Hoffman was born and lived in Denver, Colorado, and was active in numerous philanthropic causes throughout her life, in particular, Soviet Jewry. The collection consists of a six-volume work compiled by Hoffman's daughter Sheila Bialek to document her mother's life and work in commemoration of the 50th anniversary of Hoffman's Soviet Jewry activism. Video recordings of recollections of Hoffman by former Soviet refuseniks and Soviet Jewry activists, as well as several news articles about an event Bialek held in East Hampton, N.Y. in August, 2010 to honor of her mother's accomplishments, are also included.

 Abstract:  The American Jewish Joint Distribution Committee (JDC) was founded in 1914 to provide aid to Jews in Palestine and Eastern Europe. During the interwar years they supplied basic services to Jewish war survivors and helped with the reconstruction of Jewish communal infrastructure in Eastern Europe. The collection documents the relief efforts of the JDC in Eastern Europe between 1914-1936.
