Louis Rittenberg was the managing editor of the
Universal Jewish Encyclopedia and the
American Hebrew. His collection includes his wide correspondence with outstanding personalities, Jews and non-Jews, from all over the world. Among the archives are files of material for the supplementary volume eleven of the
Universal Jewish Encyclopedia which he planned to issue.
Consists of account books, by-laws, case files, certificates, correspondence, legal documents, minutes, photographs and reports from the Sephardic and Ashkenazic Jewish communities of Cairo. Also contains minute registers of two lodges of the International Order of B'nai B'rith in Cairo, which provide information crucial for understanding the modernization of Egyptian Jewry that took place in the early decades of the twentieth century.
