Abstract: | Naphtali Herz Homberg (1749-1841) was a member of the Haskalah (Jewish Enlightenment) in Galicia. Homberg persuaded the Austrian government to tax candles kindled by Jews on Shabbat (Sabbath) and Yomim Tovim (holidays). The collection contains two documents relating to this tax and an unidentified Yiddish letter. | ||
