Temple Israel of the City of New York is a Reform congregation located on New York's Upper East Side. The congregation began in 1870 as Congregation Hand in Hand (Yod B'Yod) in Harlem. Beginning as a congregation established by Orthodox German Jews, the synagogue gradually took on the Reform ritual. In addition to a synagogue, the congregation maintains an early childhood learning center and a religious school.
The collection contains a 1970 book celebrating the 100th Anniversary of Temple Israel of the City of New York. The book contains a written history of the congregation since its inception as Congregation Hand in Hand in 1870 in Harlem.
