About This GuideFinding aid encoded December, 2008 Finding aid encoded in English. Biographical NoteRabbi Shlomo Goren served as the Ashkenazi Chief Rabbi of Israel from 1972 to 1983. He rendered numerous halachic rulings (decisions pertaining to Jewish law) on a variety of subjects, including warfare, science and technology. He wrote a number of scholarly works on the Talmud, Bible, and Jewish ethics. Scope and ContentsThe collection contains a photocopy of a twenty-paged typed responsum with manuscript corrections written by the Chief Rabbi of Israel, Rabbi Shlomo Goren, to Drs. Larry Wachsman and Joel B. Wolowesky on the question of a kohen (member of the priestly class) attending medical school.
