Biographical Note

Rabbi Shlomo Goren served as the Ashkenazi Chief Rabbi of Israel from 1972 to 1983. He rendered numerous halachic rulings (decisions pertaining to Jewish law) on a variety of subjects, including warfare, science and technology. He wrote a number of scholarly works on the Talmud, Bible, and Jewish ethics.

Scope and Contents

The collection contains a photocopy of a twenty-paged typed responsum with manuscript corrections written by the Chief Rabbi of Israel, Rabbi Shlomo Goren, to Drs. Larry Wachsman and Joel B. Wolowesky on the question of a kohen (member of the priestly class) attending medical school.
