Scope and Contents

The collection consists of 9 receipts for donations to schools, religious organizations, relief organizations, and for subscriptions in England, the United States, and Palestine, as well as one empty envelope for mailing in a donation. The donations are from different people and to different organizations, enumerated as follows:

Item 1 is a receipt for dues in the amount of 11 pounds and 17 shillings to St. Catherine's Society in Oxford, May 10, 1933.

Item 2 is an undated receipt for a donation to the Zion Orphanage in Jerusalem, Palestine, given by one Mr. Livingstone in the amount of $1.00. On the back of the receipt, there are some printed testimonials about the excellency of the institution, as well as a list of rabbis and other important persons who endorsed it.

Item 3 is a receipt for a donation to the New York Committee of the United Gallil Aid Society, supporting a free public kitchen and orphanage in the Galil region of Palestine. The receipt is made out to one Rabbi A. R. Sharney in the amount of $50.00, dated May 19, 1938.

Item 4 is a receipt for a donation to the Keren Hatorah Relief Fund for the Support of Religious Educational Institutions in London, dated October 4, 1943. It was in the amount of one pound, one shilling, and appears to have been specifically for the purchase of a set of arba minim, the Four Species used on the holiday of Sukkot.

Item 5 is a receipt from the purchase of a subscription to Hadoar, a Hebrew weekly published by the Histadruth Ivrith of America, dated 1934.

Item 6 is an undated receipt for a donation to the Beth Chinuch Yeladim (School for Children) for Poor and Orphans in Jerusalem, Palestine, in the amount of five cents.

Item 7 is a receipt for a donation to the Chevrah Mishnayot U'Gemilut Chasadim of New York in the amount of $1.00, dating from 1935.

Items 8 and 9 are undated receipts of donations to Bar Jechoi Talmudic College and Dwelling for the Aged of Miron, in Safed, Palestine, from one Zalman Soloweitchik, each in the amount of 50 cents. On the back of one receipt is a small drawing with a quote from the liturgy as the caption, as well as an appeal for money in English and Yiddish. On the back of the second receipt, there is a list of by-laws of the institution in both English and Yiddish.

Item 10 is an empty envelope addressed to Rabbi Moses Segal of Beth Israel in Jerusalem, Palestine, at M.S.P.O. Box 7.
