Biographical Note

Sir Moses Montefiore was a leading Anglo-Jewish philanthropist, communal leader and early Zionist. He used his wealth and influence to combat anti-Semitism and to improve the financial and spiritual condition of Jews worldwide. He was active on behalf of Jewish settlement and development of the Holy Land.

Scope and Contents

The collection contains a photocopy of an autograph letter, signed by Sir Moses Montefiore, to Henry Solomon thanking Solomon for having initiated the movement on behalf of the Holy Land in Savannah, Georgia.
