The First Roumanian-American Congregation, also known as the Congregation Shaarey Shamoyim or the Roumanische Shul, was founded in 1885 on the Lower East Side in New York City. The Orthodox synagogue was known as the "Cantors' Carnegie Hall" because of its excellent acoustics and 1,800 person seating. The synagogue, located since 1902 at 89 Rivington Street, was demolished in 2006 after the roof collapsed due to water damage.
The collection consists of printed annual reports (1915-1919) of the First Roumanian-American Congregation on the Lower East Side. The reports contain the names of synagogue members and a variety of financial information pertaining to the congregation.
