Scope and Contents

The collection consists of a report of a study entitled "The Occupational Description of Brownsville's Jewish Community, Based on the New York State Censuses 1905, 1925." The study purports to examine the occupational distribution of the Jewish community of Brownsville, NY at these two periods using the following data points:

1. The composition of the Jewish population, immigrant and native
2. Nativity of the population
3. Age of immigrant parents and native born children
4. Ratio of males to females
5. Occupational mobility for 1905
6. Occupational mobility for 1925
7. Comparability of occupational data for the foreign and native born of 1905 with that of 1925

The 32-page report, which is in typescript format with manuscript notations, may be a portion of the full work, since it analyzes only the 1905 data.

Included with the collection is portion of a folder with the words "Grinstein material. Brownsville workforce acc to 1905, 1925 NYS census" written on it.
