Organizational Overview

The Ballarat Hebrew Congregation was founded in 1853 in Ballarat, Australia, which is approximately 65 miles from Melbourne. It is considered one of the oldest synagogues on mainland Australia and is listed a national historic landmark. The Jewish community of Ballarat began in the 1850s when gold was discovered and drew young Jewish men to the area. The congregation still exists today.
