Biographical Note

Emil L. Post was a prominent Jewish mathemetician. Born in Poland, his family emigrated to New York when he was a child. He completed his Ph.D. in mathematics from Columbia University. He taught mathematics at a number of prestigious American universities, and ended his teaching career at the City College of the City University of New York. His work focused on proof theory and logic.
